DES: The well-off residents of Windsor, Berkshire, England want to cut loose from their SL - Slough - postcode (zipcode).
TINA: The Queen's castle-cousins claim the current postal classification is affecting the town's brand identity.
DES: Also located in the County of Berkshire, Slough is the home to the UK's first and biggest industrial trading estate, and has been the butt of jokes for decades, most infamously in John Betjeman's 1937 poem which begins: "Come friendly bombs and fall on Slough...".
TINA: More recently, it was the mythical soulless-setting for the BBC hit-comedy series: The Office.
DES: Now a petition has been set up on the social networking site Facebook under the heading: Lose SL - Give Windsor (and its other wealthy neighbour - Maidenhead) a WM postcode.
TINA: Des, didn't your parents invest in a two-bedroom residential property in Slough a few years back?
DES: It's now valued at a whopping £200,000. But without the Windsor - and Heathrow Airport - connection, the valuation would be less - a lot less.
TINA: So Slough's gain is Windsor's loss.
DES: A similar property in Windsor, just a couple of miles away, would easily fetch a price of £400,000 without the SL postcode - according to local real estate agents.
TINA: So let's now discuss how these very different destination neighbours should develop their future brand identities.
DES: While Windsor waits for the bureaucratic machinery of the Royal Mail to take its course, it needs to re-introduce the 'Royal Berkshire' brand name into its postal address and then build the county's future-focus as 'Home of the Royals and Prime Ministers' - in other words - the leadership of the country - past, present - and future! (Please see footnote).
TINA: As for Slough, it only needs to re-visit the creative conversation we had a little while back - by simply clicking here.
'Brand' the Marketect says:
"When a virtual relationship isn't working for both parties, it's sometimes better to get a virtual divorce".
'Brand' the Marketect asks:

Royal Berkshire is also home to Eton College - located across the river from Windsor - where an unusually large number of British Prime Ministers went to school - at the last count, some 18 Old Etonians have moved into and out of No 10 Downing Street - with more to cross that famous threshold in the very near future.
